Hi! I’m Zara.
Thanks so much for popping by.
I am so happy you’re here.
My name is Zara Fischer-Harrison. I am a Registered Nurse, Psychotherapist. With 10 years of mental health, community and acute care nursing under my belt, I have seen, smelled, touched, and heard it all. I have spent most of my career working with folks who are experiencing both complex, untreated mental illness, as well as homelessness. I build therapeutic relationships, trust, and offer excellence in care. I provide a safe, empathic space to hear everything you need to say. I want you to tell me all the things, and we can untangle them together.
My approach is eclectic in nature, as no client brings the same issues, skills, experiences, needs, or energy to the work. I have a bone dry sense of humour, and a bit of a potty mouth, and show up just the way I am to every encounter - genuine, caring, and enthusiastic.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Empathic Listening, Concurrent Disorders, Dual Diagnosis, Suicide Prevention and am Polyvagal Theory informed.
I approach the work from harm reduction, recovery-based, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist philosophies, embracing neurodiversity and all abilities. Let’s work together to get you out of your ruts, take action, and make change. I will meet you where you are at, and together we will get you to where you want to be (even if you don’t know where that is just yet!).
I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in Social Development Studies, Psychology Minor, Certificate in Sexuality, Marriage and the Family (University of Waterloo); a Diploma in the General Studies of Social Work (Renison College); and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (University of Toronto). Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Wilfrid Laurier University). Level One TEAM-CBT (Feeling Good Institute).
